Ok guys i'm going to go get dog food and this seems to be the one area of dogs that i'm not in the know about.

My puppy is eatting a combo right now. Of science diet large breed adult( left overs from my old girl who passed), innova evo (didn't care for won't buy again), and royal canine large breed puppy. I don't know what i want to get. I was thinking about Nutro large breed puppy or sticking with the royal canine, or maybe solid gold. I don't know. Any pro's or con's guys. I have a sensitive tummy boy that right now needs to put on weight.

When I fostered a couple of ten week old mastiff puppies they were like skeletons. I used Nutro puppy and they put on weight beautifully. :D I havent used any of the others so I cant really say.

Thanks for the info. my pup isn't that bad but he could use to gain about 5lb.

I got reserve winners dog with my puppy. She got nothing with her smooth bitch, sister to my dog, it was her first show and she was moving really weird. But her rough, my dog's dad, went winners dog, best of winners out of the bred by class.

I like the nutro naturals large breed puppy, but the Solid Gold is much better quality. Tori loves the bark at the moon formula, and it's wonderful because it's one of the few foods she can eat with her alergies. Give it a try- my dogs will take the solid gold instead of a treat almost every time!

I would go with Nutro Ultra for large breed.

It worked well for all of our large breeds, and soon as we get the pup, he will be on the same diet.

very nice! congrats!

If you go with nutro just stay away from the 'max' formula. It's got a lot of grain. The ultra formula is actually pretty good, it's the new corn and wheat free formula, and it doesn't have any by products either.

Try the Solid Gold Wolf King it is a red meat formula for large breeds. It is Whole dog jounal approved and contains no wheat, corn, or by products.

I didn't know about the Nutro Ultra. I think I will check into that myself, figure out who around here sells it. Thats the biggest obstacle.

I have Lucy on Nutro Natural Choice now for large breed puppy ($30 for 40 lbs, somewhere around there). I used to have her on ProPlan and though there is no visible change in coat or stool, I have noticed she seems to like the taste of Nutro better.

I keep my little dog on Diamond Naturals for small dog adult breeds ($6 for 6 lbs). There is not any corn or by-products in it but I can't find the equal for it made for large breed puppies. I have seen the regular Diamond large breed puppy but it has corn for like the second ingredient and some by-product as first.

My vet sis keeps her cats on the feline version of Royal Canine. I can't think what the exact name is off-hand and she speaks highly of it but I have never seen that brand sold around where I live. I think she buys it from her work?

My sil told me Science Diet has corn as its first ingredient? I never looked into that myself but I know she had her dogs on it for many years and is now switching to some special fish and something brand by Eukanuba due to allergies. That, by the way, is really expensive. She paid over $50 for 40 pounds.
