I'm just curious as to how often you guys bath your dogs? I bath mine roughly anywhere from 3-5 weeks, basically whenever I start smelling 'dog'... Do you bath them yourself or get them done professionally??

I bathe my boy before every show. So it just depends. Lately pretty often. Normally with my pets about 4 times a year or less depending. My mil hasn't bathed her one dog since i met my dh 8 years ago!

I try and bathe mine every 4-5 weeks when they need to be flea/tick treated, and during the off season about 6-8 weeks.

Hmm. Alot more during the rainy (hence muddy) season.

Seriously, once every few months and I do it myself. Just a note, you cannot apply any flea treatment until three days after a bath.

I do my pair every 4-6 weeks. I do like them to smell freshly-bathed all the time :) so I'll use a cologne (Fresh-N-Clean Fresh Floral) on them once a week.

Geiger plays in the sprinklers every so often, but I've only had to bathe him twice since I got him in May, and that was because he had fleas. Oh, and one time because he rolled on a fish. Didn't want that smell on my bed! But other than that he is relatively odorless and keeps really clean.

For the ones that show, how come ya'll don't bath them more through out the year?

Luke gets a bath after each hunting trip weekend. He gets dirty and smells like sage brush. A nice shower makes him all soft and fresh smelling again. :D

I pretty much show all year, either in the Obed or Conformation ring.
So they get a bath a few times a month.Or the dogs who are not showing get a bath a few times a year unless they are really dirty.
I don't use dog shampoo on the dogs, but an oil base cleaner that adds oil to their coats,so when bathing alot they don't dry out.

No reason. my smooths stay pretty clean on their own. Roughs are another story. Dogs don't really need to be bathed unless there is a skin problem. It's more for the owners benifit.

I bathe my boxer every week because he is in the house and it is for my benefit...my outside labs, prolly 4 times a year...and speaking of dragging stuff up and rolling in it......those dogs of mine ran off in the woods behind my house and brought up a deer head...only a deer head (which is another story since this hunting was done on private property) and that was the sickest thing they messed with.....I can't even begin to describe what was all in it:eek:  Needless to say, I got the hose and soap after them.....

I bath my lab once a year.. :) The reason why is because labs have a double coat, if I bath her to much, it can remove all of her essential oils which can cause her to have dry itchy skin. I also wipe her down with baby wipes when she becomes stinky.. :)

Our English Springers weren't show or hunting dogs, just pets who lived indoors with us. They only got bathed once or twice per year, same reason as given for Labs.... Springers were originally bred for retrieving birds from water & land for hunters. If bathed too often (or without a proper PH-balanced shampoo for frequently bathed show dogs) their skin will get dry and become flakey.

I bathe Lily once a month, just before renewing her flea/tick treatment. Sometimes more often if she gets into something she shouldn't have
