My Lily (dog pictured in my avatar) is a lab mix. She's 4, but thinks she is still a puppy, and has the energy to prove it :D

Mambo is my first lab. And boy do I know how to pick them. He is so hyper. I know he is a puppy and thats how puppies are, but he never stops. I take him to the dark park as much as I can and he never wears out..
I love lab/ lab mixes. They have great attitudes and are as smart as can be. Not to say other breeds are not.

question for you other lab mix owners...does yours have a habit of coming from behind you in between your legs and sits down? that was very cute until she got tall! now it's like she does it as a joke haha

Lily likes to go between my husbands legs when they are playing outside. She will take her favorite ball ( a rubber winnie the pooh baby toy actually lol) and will stand between his legs, looking up at him. She stares at him like "come on, just try to take the ball!" It was annoying at first, but now it's actually pretty funny when she does it.

Here's a pic of my lab mix, Lily. As the picture shows, Lily isn't a very big girl, she's pretty small (medium sized)

Lucy (in my avator) is a lab mix. I went from owning an extremely obedient GSD for several years to getting the hyper, chew-crazy Lucy pup and I must say I find her charming, even when she does still manage to sneak one of my socks and is running around the house with it hanging from her mouth. I realize all puppies are like this but there are some things I noticed that seem to be related more to labs. For one, the chewing is endless, and she will try to eat anything. I was told that labs are notorious for obstructions so I keep a close eye on her. She is clumsy, very affectionate, and her energy seems endless at times. After a couple hour hike, she is fully recovered by a 20 minute snooze.
She also adores chasing anything that moves and this is still being worked out. Another lab trait perhaps?
She was almost a chicken killer (I was close by so that the chickens were saved) and this passion for birds carries over to any that happen to land in the yard, from a sparrow to a crow. Again, we are working on this but I do not think she will ever be trust-worthy around birds. Her entire body quivers if she is told to sit and she whimpers and jumps as the bird hops around the grass.
In one word, I would sum her up as goofy. I didn't have much experience with labs personally other than seeing them frequently. Lucy is the type that you just gotta love and she makes it easy.

You just described my puppy perfect. I find everything in his mouth. He thinks he is allowed to eat anything that will fit in his mouth.
You have a very cute puppy.

I think there is just something about labs and socks. Lily loves to take my husbands socks and run around the house with them (she steals them from the laundry basket). Then she plays tug when we try to get them back from her. As for energy, even being 4 years old now, Lily's energy seems endless also. Everything is cured by a light snooze, then she is up and running again. Thankfully now, she is starting to show some signs of slowing down just a bit.Lily also likes to chase pretty much anything that moves (except cars thank heavens) She tries to chase the crows that fly around our area, as well as the possums and skunks!

I grew up with labs. We had black labs, my sister and I were in our black yard playing (and the dogs were out there playing too). Suddenly they both started acting nuts ad I got scared and took my little sister inside.
They worked together and snapped a snake in half, and threwit over the fence into the neighbor's yard. My dad went over to investigate, and it was a water moccasin.
Now as an adult (and a parent) I have yellow labs. We have an adulkt female, 2 of her puppies from her first litter, and the litter she just had (6) less than a week ago. It was not an intentional breeding. We did have a male, but he lives with a woman who has seizures now, and he is doing well there. NO MORE PUPPIES will be made in this home, it is too much work to take care of them. We would still like one of the girls fomr the first litter to find the perfect forever home. I am so picky about who gets them, hence the reason we still have them at this age, LOL.

I'm a lab lover all the way. I'm just amazed how smart labs are.. Dakota surpises me everyday.. But there are days I wish I had a dumb dog.. lol.. I need to cut back on the fish oil.. lol.. ;)
Plus, labs are so cute when they are puppies.. I got so many compliments from people when my Dakota was a young puppy. I still get compliments today, but most of the time it's because they are amazed how skinny Dakota is.. I just tell them that she's still growing and she's within standards (62 lbs) and that most people are use to seeing "fluffy" labs.
You just described my puppy perfect. I find everything in his mouth. He thinks he is allowed to eat anything that will fit in his mouth.
Yes, that's one of the labs lovely traits, being mouthy. I don't have a problem with Dakota wanting to chew on things because I started to train her not to chew on stuff that wasn't hers when she was a young pup.. A tired puppy is a good puppy.. :D

I had a female yellow lab, but when I got divorced, my ex kept her. One day so got into our laundry room, where we kept the car washing supplies. She tore up a few sponges and made quite a mess. A couple days later, I noticed that she wasn't pooping, and when she would try, she would just whine and strain. So we took her to the vet, and they did an xray. Turned out she ate a few of the sponges, and they were stuck. $400 surgery later, she was fine, LOL. The vet did say that whenever they get a dog in with something stuck, 95% of the time, it's a lab, LOL. One time he got in a lab who ate a loaf of bread, still in the wrapper. Another time, he got in a lab who ate a rolled up ball of socks. Whenever I get a bigger house, I plan on getting another one.

Both my dogs are lab mixes. Like clarkfarm who said "this passion for birds carries over to any that happen to land in the yard, from a sparrow to a crow." our dogs will chase the magpies as soon as they land, and i have watched chief chase a pigeon when it was in the yard.
Bo is five and a half and she still has not lost all the extra energy that they said she would. We were told they lose that puppy energy, well we are still waiting. Chief is a bit quieter so he has slowed down a bit (but that could have something to do with his epilepsy):D

I had a lab many years ago. He broke a lot of hearts because people loved him and then would get a dog wanting them to be just like mine. When they didn't turn out like him, they were heartbroken!
He was SO smart. Once he hurt his foot and had it bandaged. He walked to the vet's office on his own. When someone opened the door, he went inside and held his paw up. He wanted it removed! They had to call us to pick up the dog!!!

OMG, that's too funny!
I have a lab--she is 11 years old now--and probably the best dog I have ever known. She is loyal, well behaved (that took some training of her and the family for consistency!)--and I have often said that if she weren't such a good dog, we would never have gotten another dog! They are a wonderful breed.
I have two. Their priorities are: eating, duck hunting, eating, going for walks, retrieving anything you throw, eviserating squeaky toys and tripping people who ar holding food. Good thing we own a dog bakery.
Though I love most dogs I don't think there is a bigger lover than a lab.

I would say the same of my rottweiler and mastiff...

Reading through these posts, I have to agree to all of them and laughed at the stories. Especially about how they have to have something in their mouths! Monte is like that. He's the one in the avatar.
I have one purebred yellow lab and two lab mixes(?). Not sure about the chocolate lab, she could be purebred? The black lab is definitely a mix and a rescue. She's soooo hyper! She's still only 2 1/2 years old so she's still a "puppy".
We used to have another purebred yellow lab before these three. She was the most wonderful dog we've ever had. She was our first lab. Molly was trained as a hearing ear dog as my husband and I are deaf. Molly died three years ago and since then we got our three current dogs. None of them are trained as hearing dogs though.
When Molly was a year old, she swallowed a LARGE marble and it got stuck. $500 surgery and vomit-induced pneumonia later, she was fine. But it scared us so bad! We thought we were gonna lose her! She lived 10 more years after that.
I could tell you many stories about my labs! :D
