Changing Food

Hi,

My puppy has been on a bland diet regimen for the past few days to help clear up the diarrhea he was experiencing. I am s upposed to start weaning him off of the bland food (Hill's Prescription Diet Canine i/d Canned Food) and back on to his old food (Royal Canin Puppy 32 dry food) and I was wondering the best way to do that.

I was told to add a little of his old food to the food he is currently eating, but I wasn't sure of the portion sizes. Right now, he is eating 1/2 a can of the wet food twice a day.

I usually make the switch over 5 days

Day 1: 3/4 of their old food and 1/4 of the new for 2 meals.
Day 2: 2/3 old and 1/3 new for 2 meals
Day 3: half and half
Day 4: 2/3 new and 1/3 old
Day 5: 3/4 new and 1/4 old

Then on day 6, I would have my dog on her new kibble.. I usually take 5 days to reduce the chance of her getting an upset stomach..

how old is your pup?
5 days is good. I'd go 7, myself.
the proportions Miska mentioned are good. Just be gradual, and if you notice any reoccurring diarrhea, go back to all I/D, and start the process again.
Less, is more.
