Stray Horse???

Well, at 4am I was woken up by a car speeding down my drive way honking all the way... The driver was screaming the one thing no horse owner ever wants to hear. "You're horse is running down the highway!" Well, a quick yell for Bo confirmed it wasn't him, but I grabbed my car keys and off hubby and I went. I didn't dare take Bo, he is moonblind and afraid of flashlights so headlights are definately not OK with him. I ended up finding and following a small paint pony. For 4 long hours I trailed (on foot) this pony, stopping traffic each way she made her way back to the road, covering miles of country roads and fields. So many times I thought she was done for, but each time she managed to avoid disaster. At one point I called 911 and begged the state police to come out and assist me before some poor driver hit the pony and got killed, but It wasn't a priority to them. Finally I was able to get close enough to get a lead on her halter, and luckly for me a wonderfull fellow horse owner offered her barn until I could find the owner (we were several miles from my place by now). Happily I just got a call from the pony's owner, who will be picking her up tommorow. The pony is tired and sore, I'm sure, But appears to be completly unharmed. Amazing.
Then again, I'm awfully tired and sore too... Ah well, Talk about happy endings!

Wow, I am so glad you trailed after the pony. I bet its owners were so thankful.

We had some young moron think it funny to open our pasture gate late one night and had our four drafts spread all over our yard and nearby road. Luckily, a good samaritan had stopped traffic and had his wife knock on our door. It was 1 am and we had been asleep. Luckily for us, our horses ran back into the pasture because of all the commotion so they were easier to gather up. That same person had also opened four other horse owner's pasture gates down the road. One's horse was missing for two weeks. Anothers was narrowly missed being hit. The kid was a minor and I doubt he will suffer any repercussions. He was caught by the last farm opening their gate (lol, by gun point). Hopefully that was scare enough and he won't try it again. We keep our gates locked now.

Turns out she's a childs pony, The owner's granddaughter. Poor kid was heartbroken- but all's well now. Have to wonder how the pony got out, they have 2 other horses and both were still in the pasture. No breaks in the fence or anything.
Clarks Farm, I can sympathize. We had some nuts on four wheelers tear up Bo's fence and chase him out about a year ago. Thank god he walked right up to one of the neighbors and they took him to their barn until we got home. They looped a rope around his neck (no halter), and someone rode in the back of the pickup holding the rope while he trotted behind!!! That still gives me nightmares. Thankfully Bo is the most level headed horse I've ever met. Naughty, but Level headed.

I hear ya about trouble from quads. We never had to gate off a dirt road that runs behind the horse pasture until we wondered why they were getting so spooky. Here it turns out three quads were riding up there and then spinning donuts at the fence corner. So now there is a locked gate which has caused alot of ruckus. People don't care that it is not their property, they think they can trespass and do whatever they want.
The horse I trail ride with still gives me trouble now when a quad has to pass and she never did that before. She either dances or will rear if you don't catch it soon enough. It's a shame because I can't use her for driving now until this is resolved.
