Vaccination Lump

Hello,

I just recently had my dog vaccinated with a booster for the distemper. It has only been a week or so and he has a lump where the injection was. Has anyone ever heard of this?

That happens when Reggie gets her shots also. The vet told me to leave it alone. If I remember right it went away in a week or 2.

This is fairly normal, it's just a minor reaction at the vaccination site and should eventually go away. If it gets bigger or doesn't go away after a couple of weeks, ask your vet to take a look.

I got alittle worried when I did a search and something came up for cats that indicated cancer. My little boy means everything to me and I panicked.

One of my dogs had this reaction everytime. The vet finally told me it was an allergic reaction to the Leptosporosis vaccine. She no longer gets Lepto. and does not have a reaction. Let the vet know of the reaction. If it happens again they will probably discontinue Lepto.

Speaking of Lepto. They are finding that the current lepto that is mixed in normall distemper isn't work. My vet has discontinued use of it. But he has the new lepto as a seperate vax.

Sometimes a lump can also form if the vaccine was not given properly, either by repeated attempts to pierce the skin or just a poor job of administering it.
I would probably let your veterinarian know the lump is present and if it doesn't go away within two weeks, have the pet seen again.
