Don't even get me started on that one. They picked the ugliest decendent of the lassie line yet. Sigh..

oh... Well, he looks like a collie... but I was talking more about the movie, not the decendent.. Have you seen the preview? It looks good... CBS did a article on the dog and the movie... I wish I saved that to show you... Ah well...

I think his name is Weatherbee or Weatherby (starts with a W, sorry), is that family still breeding and training the "Lassie" collies? I think I read somewhere that he didn't train the "Lassie" in Lassie Come Home, but regardless, the movie still looks good and will see it... I suppose the only thing I didn't like how this Lassie looked, was his nose looked so odd or weird, so big and long, I don't know, hard to explain, just wasn't crazy about how is nose looked... It didn't look like the same nose of Timmie's Lassie dog. His coat is beautiful though and I liked his markings.

Well "lassie" isn't a purebred collie. that's one reason why they always look different. And in your memembership to the collie club of america you agree not to sell to those people. So the only dogs they are getting to breed to are poor quality stock. It's a big mess. And yes as far as i know he is still breeding. If he stops he loses all the rights to all things lassie. He has to have a continues bloodline.

I thought the family also had the "rights" for their collies to be in all " Lassie" movies, though? When CBS did their story promoting this movie, their was no mention of him as being the trainer of this collie nor the fact if he breed this collie, just mentioned that the collie was a direct desendent of the orginal lassie.... Ah, so the "lassie" line is getting diluted with trash-- I suppose that explains the weird looking nose... Do you realize this movie will probably bring about BYB to the breed? I love watching dog movies, but hate the results after words because everybody wants that kind of dog after seeing a dog movie... *sigh*

Yes I do realize the influx of byb and bad pet owners. But us collie people have been dealing with this on and off forever! So we are pretty used to it. Thank god that collies are great family dogs. Collies love love love kids.

As far as i know about Lassie. The family owns all rights to lassie movies, golden books, ect. everything to do with lassie, as long as he keeps the original line going and that he has a sable rough with the big white blaze up his/her face and a few other marking issues. If the family is unable to produce this then they are sol. At least that was my understanding of things.
