How to treat a cracked toenail...

How should I be treating a cracked toenail? I can tell its bothering Veruca. It isnt bleeding, but the whole toenail is cracked. Should I clean it out with peroxide or bedatine and keep an eye on it? Should I put any type of ointment on it?

Any tips or info wouldbe great!

Winston, my boston terrier, cracked his toenail. We soaked it and put an antibiotic ointment on it and wrapped it for him. His nail was bleeding-so we didn't want an infection to set in. It took about a week and it was healed to the point of not needing any care.
