I feed my cat purina cat chow indoor formula. She really likes it. But I have been looking around trying to find a good weight control food. People told me about Iams weight control...but I don't care to use it. I found a brand that sounds pretty good, it's called Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Indoor Weight Management. I browsed on the web to find the info on it for you. Here is a link for it on petco.com: http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_Product_R_9954_PC_productlist_Nao_0_cp_1_N_2 3+92+5506_Nav_201_sku_628875_familyID_15203.aspx

If you scroll towards the bottom, you can click on description, ingredients, directions, product reviews, etc to read up on it. Just a suggestion, I think I am going to try it. :D

My folks have two fatty catties: one is on Nutro's Maxcat Lite (found at Petsmart), and the other is on the Chicken Soup for the cat lover's soul Lite Formula (only sold through some pet stores, but a better quality food, in my humble opinion). At one point their vet suggested adding a spoonful of canned pumpkin(unsweetened) to make the kitties feel fuller while getting less food-- not sure if this would be to the liking of most cats, but these particular cats will eat anything they can get their paws on-- hence the fattie problem ;)

Avoid grocery store types. If you don't want to go prey-model raw (*snicker* I have to throw that in there) go with very high quality foods. We like Felidae here- it really helped our thyroid cat maintain her weight and begin losing pounds; she was 20 when we adopted her, and 2 years later is now down to just over 15. We're currently feeding California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato and I'm very pleased.

Diet foods are a scam in my opinion. The problem with overweight cats is not caloric intake but that they're usually not getting enough exercise. If your cat's fat and all it does is lay around, it's not going to lose weight no matter what you feed it.

So, in addition to feeding a high quality food with less filler, sugar and fat, reduce the portions you're feeding, supplement with PetTabs or other complete vitamins and get your putty-tat to EXERCISE! We sometimes play the "predator" game where we make them chase their food kibble-by-kibble across the kitchen floor for a while. They can feel accomplished while they eat. We play with strings and throw mice for them to catch and play with, and keep them from getting too sedate. We have a large cat tree and make sure that we move it periodically- they seem to think it's a whole new toy and boy do they use it well.

I've been using Wellness Lite for my overweight cat... She was 16 lbs when we adopted her and she is down to 14, which is great! She was being fed some awful grocery store kibble that looked like a kid's breakfast cereal (fancy colors and shapes  ) by her old owners-- I think it was called DeliCat? Anyway she loves the Wellness Super5mix Lite and it has been working great for her. Keep in mind you want slow weight loss, rapid weight loss is dangerous for cats.

EVO cat by Innova. It has 50% protien in the dry kibble and isd like putting your cat on the Atkins diet. Cats are obligate carnivores so the protien level is appropriate.

The Wellness Product that Chicago Canine mentions is also a very good product.
