Well this is what i don't understand,ok!...my dog is 15 yrs old and a poodle and for about a yr the vet has been telling me that Mollie's urine infection was coming from drinking to much water i had her at the vet's a few times and very time they give me meds for her and it clears up then comes right back so for over 6 months i have been limiting her water intake but still she is still having them..they have done the wellness test on her twice in one yr and say everything is fine, but for the last few days she is been getting weak in her back legs and i know she is old but do you think it is something i need to have looked at?...and do you think that all these infections she keeps getting well damage her kidneys?.....plz help

I have never in my 13 years of working with dogs heard of a dog getting a uti from drinking too much water. That sounds rediculous. I used to be a vet tech and we treated a lot of UTIs, but none that were caused by that. I would find another vet- because no dog at that age should be on a limited water intake. I think you are probably right to be concerned about her kidneys- if there is a problem it could be the cause of her drinking so much water. If the UTI is recurring it could be a problem with her food, she may need a special diet, but it should not be coming from drinking too much water. Good luck, and definitely get a second opinion!

Please find another vet. :( The infections may hurt her kidneys, but restricting her water Definitely will, especially if they're already not 100%, like DiggityDogs said.
Ask your friends and coworkers if they have a vet they really like, and make a list of Mollies's symptoms before you go (I don't know about you, by my mind tends to go blank while I'm sitting there waiting for the vet :p )
I hope she feels better soon!

She might have stones. Have you looked into a holistic vet?
Here is one that come highly recommend. http://www.charlesloopsdvm.com/

He is in NC. Takes phone consultations for animals, large and small.

Thanks guys for your input, and i took mollie to the vet today and we seen a different one and she said she has never heard of that either and told me to let her have her water and they done a x-ray to see if she had stones and that was ok..so they put her back on antibotic for 4 weeks but told me i needs to watch her for when i had her wellness test done in march that her kidney test was alittle high..so we will see how she does,my poor baby is just getting old she has lost someone sight in her eyes and she stopped hearing about a yr ago.But thanks so much for your help guys.

Hi guys, well the next day i had to take mollie back to the vet she could hardly walk and she wouldn't drink or eat anything,so i call them all upset and they told me to bring her back so i did they wanted to do blood work to see if there was anything going on with her liver and kidneys but it came back ok other than her calcium was alittle high and she said she didn't want to scare but when that hi it could be cancer, but they said they think that is was just sore from everything they done to her the day before and the first time they told me her weight was 15.8 and i couldn't believe that, then next day she was down to 13.2 and mollie has always weight around 14 so she has lost but she is eating really good a matter of fact, she is eating better now that we moved in with my mom.So vet told me to watch her weight too,so in a few weeks i got to take her back to have them few things checked...but she is doing much better, she is almost back to her old self. Thanks i'll let you know how she is doing in a few weeks take care all.
