My dog grew a small (nickel size) bump when she was about 9 months old. The vet said it is normal, a tumor common in puppies, and would go away on its own. After a couple months (in which we tried keeping her from scratching it but didn't to a great job) the tumor doubled in size and got icky... (oozy). We decided to have it removed and biopsied, and luckily it turned out to be what the vet had originally thought, not cancer or anything bad. Has anyone else's dog had this? Is it a one-time thing, and is there anything we can do to prevent it in the future?

I haven't heard of it, but I'm glad your puppy is Ok :)
Have you talked to your vet about your concerns? If you have the technical name for the growth, you could look around on the internet and find out more about it.

I have never had it on one of my dogs but i have seen it working at veterinary clinic and usually it's just a one time thing but those dogs usually get alot of those kind of tumors in old age. At least that has been my experience.

Just out of curiosity was it on the top of the head???
Was it a fatty tumor or button tumor?
I'm glad the pup is OK.

Fatty tumors/cysts are pretty common in a lot of breeds, mine included (Chinese Crested). I just short term fostered a female barely over a year old and she already has one about the size of a quarter on her side. They'll remove it when she is spayed. I've also had a 3 yr old with one in almost the exact spot.
