there are some great books on how to train with hand signals. Go look on amazon.com.

Training with good smelly food, hand signals, even sometimes vibrations like from a tuning fork, stomping your feet or high pitched noises may be heard it depends on the level of deafness. I'd have the dog evaluated by a specialist if possible and try to consult a trainer as well for assistance if you can
Good luck
hope that helps

I read this great book called Amazing Gracie A dog's Tale by Dan Dye & Mark Beckloff. It was about a deaf great dane and that story was so sad & wonderful. This dog lead a full life and brought so much joy into these mens life. It was a great read I thought. She was even on Oprah. I think deaf dogs can be a joy!!!!
Good for you and get some books and look into things and you will have a great time!!

I have worked with a couple deaf dogs and the main thing when teaching them is be positive and know it will work. USE GOOD CLEAR HAND SIGNALS AND EACH SIGNAL HAS TO BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AS YOU DONT WANT THE PUPPY TO GET CONFUSED WHEN YOU SAY STAY THEY MAY GET IT CONFUSED WITH COME... YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN... IT ISNT EASIEST THING IN THE WORLD TO TRAIN A DEAF PUPPY BUT IT IS FUN AND EXCITED.
and remember to socialize this puppy very well so he/she doesnt get fear aggressive. :D hugs hopes this helps
