looks like a pit to me. But i could def see the possibility of some ab in there. My mil's pit is white and looks pretty simular but the face is slightly different.

I will have to agree with SmoothCollieluver, I'm thinking pit and AB cross, but theres really no way to tell, good looking dog though :)

Looks like I'm not the only one who got hooked! He's adorable Digity! Reminds me alot of Loki, wonder if he's a mix too? He's also SUPPOSED to be purebred AB, but... Same color pattern and everything, although Loki is probably over 70 lbs now. Tell me, does Abe have a fixation with giving kisses? Loki would never stop if he had his way. I know if Abe could talk he'd never stop saying THANK YOU!, so I'll say it for him. Thank you for taking the time and having the heart to save a life! The world needs more people like you!

Awe he is a doll. If you are correct about the age then I'd say definately not a purebred AB, but possibly an AB APBT mix or and APBT. As he grows he may take on more traits to make the breed more apparent to you.

What a doll. Congrats on saving him. I hope he stays with you

Post more picts pleeeease?

How tall is he?

Poor Abe! Loki came to us with Kennel cough allong with lots of other problems, Sounds like Abe's had a hard time of it. Is Abe on any cough meds? they really seemed to make Loki feel better. Quaranteen is so hard!

Abe is a great looking dog! That was awesome for you to rescue him. I see a lot of pit in him but I kinda see a little AB in the snout:p
I hope he gets well! Hug him for me :)

I think he is an English Bulldog. Have to look this up, but he is a nice looking dog. Why do people throw away puppies? I will supply the answer- Jerks.:D

Here is a pup that looks like Abe!

I think that you are right DD. Abe has a straight muzzle as opposed to the Eng variety. They are an interesting looking breed. I thought it might be English as my neighbors dogs looked a lot like that when they were pups...They change in appearance quite a bit. (but pits/bulldogs are not my specialty):o

Part of its difficulty in breathing may be his nasal passages may be a bit inflamed too. What about a cool mist humidifier where you have him recuperating? Or anti-inflammatory to help relieve stuffiness. At any rate when they are that sick, a couple weeks on antibiotic is not unusual. I wish you the best with your pet. When he is feeling better he will probably be very happy and loving in respect for all you do for him.:)

DD, How is the puppy doing lately? Is he improving at all?

editing in: I didn't see that you had already posted this above. Sorry he's not all better yet. Did the doc do a culture, blood or secretions? He probably could use some fluids to replace what hes not taking in.

I think that there is something wrong with the server for discussdogs.com.

But anyhow, glad little Abe is drinking water. And that you have a vet that you like and trust.

Keep us posted with his progress!

That is great! Sounds like he may just be getting over this infection.

I had a pup that was awfully sick when I brought him home. I thought he was too well behaved and the fact was he was terrible sick. It took a little over two weeks on antibiotics to get him over it. And I would do it over again, given the chance.

ah, for the love of dogs!!:)

Hang in there diggity~

i agree but depending on his stature i would say hes pit/stratford terrier there known for looking like a pit becasue well they are just a diffrent variation with characteristics being short stature and pretty much nothing but muscle and having more often then not a big head

Shelter policy.... geez. This is definitely a case where they can make an exception! It's not as if he NEEDS neutered right now anyway- if he can barely walk, he's not going to impregnate a dog.

Diggity, I'm so sorry. :(

Would the shelter give you a break on cost(for neuter and rabies) due to all of the effort, care and time you have given this animal? If he has survived this far, he may be able to overcome the muscular/neuro appearing damage?

I don't know what the prognosis is for parvo and distemper, I thought that they usually just died from that. Would you test for that now? If you knew what the prognosis would be then you could direct your care best...

Sorry that he is not well yet. And you have been good to do all you have already.

I have never seend a dog with distemper survive with any kind of normal life. It's sad. If people would just vax their puppies this wouldn't be an issue.

I'm so sorry he's sick :( I hope he gets better soon!!! I originally posted the message below and then went back and read the thread, that's so sad! I hope you can figure out what is best for him. Good luck!!

My Lili is full pit- we saw both parents when we got her. She was 40 lb last time we went to the vet. Everyone who sees her on our walks asks if she's an am.bull! She is so cute... looks just like my pit when she was a puppy!! Just as sweet too. I'd guess her parents were both mostly pit.

Diggity,

I'm very sorry to hear this news but Smooth is right- most dogs with distemper don't survive at all, let alone with full, regular lives. Whatever your decision, I think it's safe to say that you've got our support.

I wish that it wasn't this way but the work that you've put into trying to make him better is inspiring.
