I'm writing in desperation for my sister and her beautiful dog. She has a 6 year old male pit mix, great with children, really a wonderful dog. The city where she lives just past an ordinance outlawing the ownership of any pit or boxer mix/breed. Her landlord has now given her 1 day to find a new home for this great dog, which leads me here. Seeing that her friends and family live in the area, and dog shelters are ordered to put the dog to sleep, she has no where to turn.. This is a family dog which needs a home asap! Please help us save her beautiful pet! If you have any advice, or can offer her baby (Buster)a home, (pending interview/vet check etc.) we would greatly appreciate it! I need help and advice to save this dog's life!

I wish you luck with finding this baby a home. Did this legistlation just pass. I was not aware of this happening their. I would ask every friend and co-worker I know even if they could take the dog on a temporary basis. The landlord sounds likes real animal lover. I would find a temproary home outside of the ristricted area and then I would move out of the area. Thats me personally. Hopefully someone here can help. I would look up pitbull rescues and see if they can help you out. Let us know how it goes.
Horrible situation to be in.

If moving isn't an option, I would find a no kill shelter out of the restricted area, or perferably a rescue group. Web searches, dependent on your exact location- phone book- call the local shelter and see if they can reccomend something. It will most likely mean a drive for his owner, and maybe a fee (or a donation to help with the expense of his care). I'm sure if you start calling around you can find a group to help this dog. A few to try...

Thanks to everyone for reading and replying! Though I called a few rescue shelters, (without any help due to lack of foster homes), I have wonderful news! My sister was able to contact the woman she adopted her baby Buster from, who had since moved to allow her to keep Buster's twin sister with her in her home. Buster is now living in the country with his first mother and twin sister! They were both very very happy to have him!

while this is great news for the pup, beware of more legislation that will outlaw other breeds...the days are comming where you large breed owners will need to wonder if your family member wont be outlawed...and all this because of PEOPLE...people who are irresponsible owners and give these dogs thier bad reputation...i really feel bad for you friend, but am glad to hear the pup is ok.

Say he is an american bulldog! it is sometimes hard to tell a pit from a AB. How can they know otherwise?
