Hi! My name is Aimee and I would really like to adopt a female yorkie. I am the only child in my family and I feel that a yorkie will be the perfect companion for me. I have never had a dog before but I know I like them because I love playing with my cousin's two dogs - a chihuahua and a boxer. I also love to play with the puppies at the pet store but I was never able to buy a puppy there because they are too expensive and my mom didnt want to pay that much just to buy me a dog. Will someone please help me?

Well, it's good you didn't buy from a pet store, since they often buy from puppy brokers and millers who do not truly care for the dogs they breed, they're just trying to make money. this is why they are so expensive. Since you have a concern about spending a certain amount, you may not be able to get one from a good breeder either, since they usually charge a good deal for their puppies to cover all of the health testing and work they put into them. Your best bet is to look for a yorkie rescue in your area, or a small breed rescue, or maybe check out your local shelters and see what they have. You'd be surprised at how many little yorkies are looking for homes! Just go to google and type in 'yorkie rescue' or 'small breed rescue' and the city that you live in and hopefully it will bring something up for you. Another advantage about rescues is that the dogs they have will already be spayed or neutered, and will have all of their shots, and will often only cost around $100- $200. good luck!

I am a big believer in Petfinder. Look at this thread and possibly find a yorkie near you. This site is amazing, it holds private folks as well as rescues looking to place every possible breeds including some very rare ones. Good luck.
