Dog yelping periodically and don't know why!
Hi everyone - This is kind of strange but here it goes...
We have a 3 yr.old 10 lb. pomeranian who thus far has been in good health. Beginning a few days ago, he has been yelping for no apparent reason...When he is laying next to someone, and they move as if they are going to get up or pick him up, he yelps for no apparent reason...even when no one is touching him! No change in appetite, drinking water fine, seems to be going to the bathroom the same as usual. One thing that I think he's doing but can't be quite sure is sometimes it seems as though he has a hard time turning his head to the right, not so much to the left. I feel terrible because he is up alot of the night because everytime someone stirs, he jumps up and yelps. During the day when he's not resting he seems fine, walks around...we can pick him up and he doesn't seem to be in pain. I do plan on taking him to the vet if it continues, but it's very hard to determine when because alot of the time he seems fine. I know this is alot of info, but with not much to go on...anyone ever encounter anything even close to this? Thanks in advance...

I would definitely get him to a vet asap. There's no way to know what's really causing it, your vet will most likely need to do x-rays. If he has a spinal/neck injury that's causing it, it could get worse if it's not treated. It could also be neurological, possibly if he bumped his head running into something. Either way, I could ask a million questions and try to figure it out, but the bottom line is he'll probably need some treatment. Hope he starts feeling better soon!

I agree with Diggity- I would defiently get your dog to a vet ASAP. Thats very odd behavior and something is bothering you dog big time to be acting like that. Animals from my own expierence tend not to express discomfort like we do and I know if my dog expresses any signs of pain in must really be something. Let us know how it goes. I will be praying for you pup.

Same thing going on with my dog
Hi,
My 9 year old mixed terrier is doing the exact same thing. He still jumps up and down on the bed, eats, drinks, everything fine. He yelps when he wakes up, and I'm noticing that he doesn't turn his head to the left. I'm going to give him part of a baby aspirin and take him to the vet tomorrow. |

My guess would be that there is a knee issue. That tends to happen in those little guys. Go get him checked out.
